Daehling makes 15 saves but Muskies fall to undefeated Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Sept. 30) – Powerful Dominican (Ill.) University scored three times in the second half, fighting off a game effort by the Lakeland University women's soccer team and eventually pulling away to a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.

Grace Daehling (Fr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) made 15 saves in goal, including nine in the first half, and the Muskies kept the Stars at bay for a while but dropped their fourth straight conference match. Lakeland is now 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the NACC after being shut out for the third straight match. Dominican (11-0-1 overall, 4-0 NACC) extended its win streak to eight straight and won via shutout for the seventh time this year.

The Stars scored just once in the first 45 minutese, with Tania Paez breaking the ice at 19 minutes 26 seconds of the match. The Muskies kept the hosts to just that single goal until Dominican scored twice in a span of 1:51 early in the second half.

Lexi Kiotis scored the first of the two goals 9:40 into the second half, and Leah Kostos followed at 56:31 by cleaning up a corner kick to make the score 3-0. The Stars added a final goal with less than five minutes left as Alexis Hoskins sent home a crossing pass in the box.

Dominican outshot Lakeland 34-3, with the Muskies getting their only shot on goal in the second half from Brianna Johnson (So.-Green Bay, Wis.), just 17 seconds after the Stars' second goal. Jenna Borts (Fr.-Oak Creek, Wis.) and Makenna Waller (So.-De Pere, Wis.) also added shot attempts.

Daehling made a career-high 15 saves on 19 shot attempts and weathered constant pressure. Dominican attempted 21 corner kicks and split its 34 shots almost evenly with 18 in the first half and 16 in the second half.
