ST. LOUIS, Mo. –
Matt Stolz (
Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) had another big match on the attack and Lakeland University picked up its first Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League win of the season with a three-set sweep of Fontbonne (Mo.) University Friday night.
Stolz finished with 22 kills, nearly matching the school-record 23 kills he totaled just two nights earlier in a four-set loss to Cardinal Stritch University. He recorded more than 20 kills for the third time in eight matches this season as the Muskies won 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 and improved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the MCVL.
Lakeland was challenged in all three sets, especially in a second set that included 12 ties, but ultimately pulled through in all three and pinned the Griffins with just their third loss of the season (8-3 overall, 4-2 MCVL). The Muskies hit .265 for the night with 44 kills and just 13 errors in 117 attacks, well ahead of Fontbonne's .107 hitting percentage with 34 kills and 22 errors.
Casey Bolda (
Sr.-Honolulu, Hawaii) also finished with nine kills and
Dakota Hunter (
So.-Waukesha, Wis.) added a career-high eight kills.
Addison Mertler (
