Muskies drop two to Concordia

MEQUON – Michael Austin (Fr.-Glendale, Ariz.) pitched well in the second game but the Lakeland University baseball team struggled offensively all day in a pair of losses to Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at Kapco Park.

Austin allowed three runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 innings, scattering 12 hits but keeping the Muskies within striking distance before the hosts scored five times in the eighth inning to break open an eventual 8-0 win. Concordia also defeated Lakeland 15-0 in the first game, and with the two losses the Muskies dropped to 10-18 overall and 2-10 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Lakeland had multiple chances to get on the board early in the second game, stranding six runners over the first four innings. Travis Regalado (So.-Willcox, Ariz.) and Jaired Dozier (So.-Colorado Springs, Colo.) both had two hits each early and the Muskies had runners at second in all four frames.

Bryan Bridges (So.-North Chicago, Ill.) also had two hits in the second game. Concordia (18-9 overall, 9-3 NACC) finished with 16 hits and scored five times in the bottom of the eighth, sending 10 hitters to the plate in the inning.

The day did not get off to a good start for Lakeland, which allowed three runs in each of the first two innings and also was held to three hits in the game by Andrew Gibbons, who threw a seven-inning complete game for the Falcons. Concordia scored in all six of its at bats, including five more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Muskies will play again Sunday when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
