Dominican (Ill.) University put together major single-inning outbursts in both games as the Lakeland University baseball team was defeated twice Friday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader.
The Stars defeated the Muskies 16-2 in the first game and followed that with a 15-2 win in seven innings in the nightcap. Lakeland dropped to 11-24 overall and 3-13 in the NACC with two games to play Sunday against Concordia University Chicago.
Dominican (17-21 overall, 8-10 NACC) scored five runs in the fifth inning of the first game, breaking open a close game for a 7-1 lead. The Stars then polished it off with eight runs in the ninth inning.
The guests weren't done, as they had their biggest inning in the second game. Dominican scored 10 times in the top of the second in the nightcap and cruised home the rest of the way.
Travis Regalado (
So.-Willcox, Ariz.) drove in
Kenny Pekarek (
Sr.-Sagola, Mich.) with a run-scoring groundout in the opener to give the Muskies an early lead. He also hit a solo home run in the second game, his fourth of the season.
Jody Harrison (
So.-Pontiac, Mich.) led Lakeland hitting with three hits over the two games.
Cameron Sharp (
So.-Pflugerville, Texas) and
Bryan Bridges (
So.-North Chicago, Ill.) also drove in runs.
Relievers
Christian Foss (
Sr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and
Evan Martin (
Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis.) had the best pitching performances for the Muskies. Foss came on in the opener and allowed two hits and one earned run in three innings, while Martin pitched two scoreless frames in the second contest, allowing two hits while striking out three.
