MEQUON –
Brittini Scoles (
Sr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) finished with a season-high 14 kills but the Lakeland University women's volleyball team was defeated by Concordia University Wisconsin in four sets Wednesday night at the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
The Muskies were able to take a set off the Falcons but were defeated in four, 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19. Lakeland lost its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener, falling to the defending conference champions on the road in another match in a difficult stretch of games early in the season.
The Muskies (2-8 overall) gave a respectable effort against another stout opponent, almost matching the Falcons' hitting for the first three sets. Lakeland never led in the first two sets but had a chance to steal the second set late, and the Muskies then never trailed in the third set before Concordia (8-1 overall) broke free from an early battle in the fourth.
Scoles doubled her best kill total of the season with 14 kills, while
Shannon Bishop (
So.-River Grove, Ill.) also finished with nine kills and
Allison Errthum (
Sr.-Joliet, Ill.) added eight kills. Lakeland hit .101 as a team with 39 kills and 25 errors, though 10 errors came in the fourth set when the Muskies finished with a negative hitting percentage with eight kills.
Errthum also was one of three Muskies in double figures in digs with 13.
Emma Bruder (
Jr.-Frankfort, Ill.) paced the team with 14 digs and
Brianna Johnson (
Jr.-Altoona, Wis.) added 10.
Taylor Bubolz (
Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) also led Lakeland with 19 assists, while
Neenah Primas (
Fr.-Oostburg, Wis.) added 13 assists.
The Muskies are on the road again this weekend when they travel to the UW-Eau Claire Nike Eastbay Fall Classic. Lakeland opens play Friday when it faces College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at 5 p.m.
