Muskies split on opening night at UW-Eau Claire tourney

EAU CLAIRE – The Lakeland University women's volleyball team earned its third win of the season, defeating College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) in its opening match of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Nike Eastbay Fall Classic at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Muskies posted a four-set win over the Saints, 25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 25-13 in their opening match of the two-day invitational. Lakeland followed that with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 loss to the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Allison Errthum (Sr.-Joliet, Ill.) had a good night attacking and defensively. She finished with 10 kills and added 13 digs in the win over St. Scholastica and tied for the team lead with nine kills while adding a team-best eight digs in the nightcap. Errthum also was efficient on the attack with just four errors in 41 attempts for a .366 hitting percentage.

Shannon Bishop (So.-River Grove, Ill.) led Lakeland (3-9 overall) with 12 kills against St. Scholastica, while Shelby Block (Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.), Megan Goeser (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) and Brittini Scoles (Sr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) also all added seven kills each. The Muskies also had their best blocking of the season with a team total of nine blocks, with Block, Goeser and Abby Baumgartner (Fr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) all contributing four block assists each.

Emma Bruder (Jr.-Frankfort, Ill.) led the back row with 19 assists. Neenah Primas (Fr.-Oostburg, Wis.) also finished with 25 assists against the Saints and Taylor Bubolz (Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) added 20 assists.

Scoles joined Errthum in tying for the team lead in kills against Minnesota-Morris, but the duo also combined for 18 of the Muskies' 23 kills as they hit just .096 for the match against the Cougars' .311 hitting percentage. Bubolz finished with 16 assists and Baumgartner served three aces.

Lakeland concludes play in Eau Claire on Saturday, first facing Concordia College Moorhead (Minn.) at noon before taking on nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College for the second time in a week at 2 p.m. Both matches will be live streamed by UW-Eau Claire.
