EAU CLAIRE – Despite pushing both of its opponents, the Lakeland University women's volleyball team closed out play at the UW-Eau Claire Nike Eastbay Fall Classic with a pair of losses Saturday afternoon at McPhee Physical Education Center.
The Muskies (3-11 overall) lost a five-set marathon against Concordia College Moorhead (Minn.), 17-25, 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 15-12 and then were defeated in four sets by Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13, 25-21. The latter came against a team ranked 14th in the latest AVCA/NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, and was Lakeland's second loss to Gustavus in a week.
Shannon Bishop (
So.-River Grove, Ill.) led the Muskies' attack in both matches and was named to the all-tournament team. She posted 14 kills against Concordia and then had 11 kills without an error in 31 attempts versus Gustavus Adolphus.
Allison Errthum (
Sr.-Joliet, Ill.) posted 10 kills against Concordia and also led the team in digs in both matches. She posted 13 digs and added five service aces in the opener and then moved to the back row against Gustavus and led the Muskies with 18 digs.
Taylor Bubolz (
Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) led the setters with 47 assists on the day.
Brianna Johnson (
Jr.-Altoona, Wis.) totaled 19 digs over two matches, while freshmen
Abby Baumgartner (
Kewaunee, Wis.) and
Megan Goeser (
Plymouth, Wis.) both had seven blocks each.
Emily Grzesiak (
So.-Spokane, Wash.) also posted a career-high seven kills and seven digs against Gustavus Adolphus.
Lakeland is back on its home court for its next match Wednesday when it hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual at 7 p.m.
