Megan Goeser (
So.-Plymouth, Wis.) sent down seven kills without an error and added six blocks, one of a number of dominating and efficient performances as Lakeland University swept Rockford University in three sets Friday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies finished as winners on Senior Night, rolling to a 25-10, 25-7, 25-18 victory and needing only an hour to improve to 15-7 overall and 6-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches. Lakeland won for the 10th time in 13 matches, with all 10 victories coming via sweep.
The Muskies again were nearly error-free attacking, finishing with 34 kills and just six errors in 73 attacks for a .384 hitting percentage, their second-best mark of the season.
Lakeland was especially lethal in the first two sets, posting 20 kills and just one error for a .452 attack percentage to that point. The Muskies jumped out to a 10-3 lead in never trailing in the first set, and then got even further out front early in the second set, taking an 11-3 margin before later going on a 10-0 run late in the set as well.
The Muskies also featured seniors again all playing key roles.
Shelby Welsh (
Ogallala, Neb.) led the team with nine kills with just one error plus added 10 digs and two service aces,
Brianna Johnson (
Altoona, Wis.) led the team with 11 digs and
Emma Bruder (
Frankfort, Ill.) added eight digs, three assists and two service aces.
Eliana Arbetman (
Oak Park, Ill.) also came off the bench to post five kills without an error in eight attacks, and
Emilie Schartner (
Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) added three kills plus two blocks, part of Lakeland's eight team blocks.
Neenah Primas (
So.-Oostburg, Wis.) also added 27 assists, six digs and four kills without an error in five attacks. Goeser's six blocks also included four solo blocks, as the Muskies helped hold Rockford to a negative hitting percentage at -.106 (17 kills, 26 errors).
Emily Johannes finished with six kills to lead Rockford (4-19 overall, 0-9 NACC). Jennifer Quintas added eight digs.
The Muskies are home again Saturday when they host a triangular starting against Finlandia (Mich.) University at 2 p.m. Finlandia will then play Central (Iowa) College at 4 p.m., and Lakeland will then face Central at 6 p.m.
