Lakeland University will try to turn its gridiron fortunes around Saturday when it travels to face Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at WLC's Raabe Stadium in Milwaukee.
The Muskies (1-5 overall, 1-2 in conference) are looking to get back in the win column after a 37-20 loss to Rockford last week in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. The Regents scored 24 consecutive points in the second half and 31 points in a row in all over a span of 18 minutes, 47 seconds, including a touchdown with 20 seconds left before halftime that gave the visitors a 13-12 lead at the break. Rockford quarterback Delayno Mack threw for four touchdowns, out-dueling
Charl'Tez Nunnery (
So.-Liberty, Miss.), who threw a career-best three touchdowns.
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-5 overall, 1-2 NACC) enters with the same records after falling behind Benedictine by three touchdowns early in a 40-31 loss last Saturday. The Eagles jumped to a 20-0 lead midway through the second quarter and held on despite Lutheran closing to within 34-31 with 6:13 to play in the fourth quarter. Pat Mathieson threw for three touchdowns, including two to Nick Charles-Crowl, and Jake Anderson also added a TD pass for WLC.
Lakeland and Wisconsin Lutheran are meeting for the 12th time in a series that began in 2001. The Muskies lead the series 8-3 after a 48-0 rout of the Warriors last season in Milwaukee.
Dezmon Eddie (
Jr.-Alexandria, La.) rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns and Lakeland outgained WLC 613-120. Wisconsin Lutheran won the team's meeting two years ago, though, posting a 50-34 victory Oct. 22, 2016 at Sheboygan North High School's Urban Field. Mathieson passed for 228 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 219 yards and two more scores.
