Eagles break ice early, go on to shut out Muskies

Edgewood College scored a goal just over three minutes into the match and the Lakeland University men's soccer team played from behind the rest of the way in a 4-0 loss Wednesday night at home at Taylor Field.

Four different players scored goals as the Eagles earned their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season. Edgewood improved to 6-4-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference, while Lakeland dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the NACC.

Sean Surtees got the visiting Eagles on the board 3 minutes, 31 seconds into the match, scoring with an assist by Nicholas Bilodeau. Surtees later assisted on a goal by Garrett Lee in the 68th minute for the first goal of the second half that put Edgewood ahead 3-0.

Zander Hartberg also added a goal for the Eagles in the 39th minute assisted on by Lee that gave Edgewood a 2-0 lead just before halftime. Scott Biancofiori added a final goal in the 72nd minute.

Edgewood outshot Lakeland 22-4, with all four Muskies shots coming in the first half. Cole Blandin (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) sent the lone shot on goal for the hosts in the 41st minute, while other opportunities included a header by Shousei Suzuki (Jr.-Tokyo, Japan) that went wide early in the match plus a shot high by Ryoto Kinoshita (Jr.-Kanagawa, Japan) in the 21st minute.

Carson Hughes and Brandyn Storhoff combined on the shutout in goal for Edgewood, while Tyson Carter (Fr.-Yakima, Wash.) and Aaron Smith (Fr.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) shared keeper duties for Lakeland, with Carter making four saves over 73:56 before Smith closed out and did not face a shot on goal.

The Muskies return to action Saturday when they travel to face Benedictine University at 6 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
