Miranda Jacobson (
Sr.-Felch, Mich.) filled the stat sheet with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists in front of a big gathering of her fans and the Lakeland University women's basketball team cruised to a 74-31 win over Marian University Saturday afternoon at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies held the Sabres to 22.4% shooting for the game and never trailed in their most lopsided win of the season. Lakeland won its third straight game, all in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, and improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference.
Jacobson played in front of a large number of fans who made the trip down from her home area of northern Dickinson County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and she came near a triple-double in just 24 minutes of play. The senior led the Muskies in scoring and rebounds, made 6 of 10 shots from the field and all four of her free throws and also added two steals.
The Muskies were in control almost from the start, taking a 10-1 lead just 4 minutes 2 seconds into the game and leading 19-7 after one quarter. After Marian (0-7 overall, 0-5 NACC) got a jumper from Molly Magnus to cut its deficit to single digits at 22-13 early in the second, Lakeland followed with a 16-2 run for a 38-15 lead and would lead 42-17 at halftime.
Rachel Hasko (
Jr.-Racine, Wis.) scored all 11 of her points in the first half, including three three-pointers, and also added a career-high six assists for the game.
Megan Will (
So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) also scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, and
Amanda Majewski (
Jr.-Peshtigo, Wis.) added eight points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Lakeland shot 42.2% for the game, making 27 of 64 from the field, and hit a season-high 10 of its 25 three-point attempts (40.0%). Eleven different player scored for the Muskies, who also finished with a 22-6 advantage in bench points and turned 34 Marian turnovers into 31 points.
The Sabres made just 11 of 49 shots from the field, including 1 of 14 three-point attempts. Marian did finish with a 43-41 rebounding advantage and was led by Paris Harris, who posted game highs with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Muskies are idle for final exams next week until facing Illinois Institute of Technology next Saturday on the road at 2 p.m.
