Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Will perfect from field as Muskies double up Sabres

Megan Will (Fr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) made all 11 of her field goal attempts on the way to a career-best 22 points and the Lakeland University women's basketball team defeated Marian University 74-37 Tuesday night in its regular season home finale.

Will converted all 11 of her baskets in the paint and the Muskies bounced back from a loss Saturday to win for the eighth time in nine games. Lakeland also completed a season sweep of the Sabres and stayed in the thick of the race for a home game in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament next Wednesday, remaining tied for fourth in the conference after the night.

The Muskies (16-8 overall, 13-6 NACC) dominated from the start, shooting 73.3% in the first quarter in taking a 26-6 lead. Lakeland also made six of its first seven three-point tries as a team and had a shooting percentage over 70% well into the second quarter before finishing the first half at 56.7% (17 of 30).

Will got position down low on the left block time and again, hitting all six of her shots in the first half and five more in the second. Her 22 points came in just 16 minutes of play and helped the Muskies to a 38-10 advantage in points in the paint.

Miranda Jacobson (Jr.-Felch, Mich.) also scored 11 points and added 12 rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Amanda Majewski (So.-Peshtigo, Wis.) and Abby Nylund (Fr.-Crystal Falls, Mich.) also scored nine points each.

Lakeland honored its two seniors before the game, and four-year starters Maddy Doll (Florence, Wis.) and Rachel Stankevich (Goodman, Wis.) both contributed. Doll scored six points and added eight rebounds and three blocked shots, while Stankevich also finished with six points plus seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Her four steals moved her up into second place on the school's career list for steals with 208 now, behind only Jill Dewane with 252 from 1998-2002.

The Muskies also held Marian to 27.3% shooting, with the guests making 15 of 55 shots. The Sabres (3-21 overall, 1-18 NACC) were led by Rachel Serchen with 12 points.

Lakeland closes out its regular season on Saturday when it travels to face Alverno College at 7 p.m.
