Muskies take to road for NACC tourney opener at MSOE

The Lakeland University men's volleyball team will attempt to repeat its recent success against Milwaukee School of Engineering when it travels to face the Raiders in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The sixth-seeded Muskies are on the road to take on the No. 3 seed but were plenty competitive in both matches against MSOE this season. Lakeland won the teams' last meeting in four sets at home on March 21, and also pushed the Raiders to five sets before falling in Milwaukee on Feb. 28.

Lakeland (9-19 overall) saw its regular season end Saturday with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-20 loss to Dominican, the No. 7-ranked team in the AVCA/NCAA Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll. Cameron Ekum led Lakeland with nine kills and 10 assists, but as a team the Muskies hit just .086.

MSOE (13-11 overall) closed out its spring break to the East Coast with a 3-0 loss to Springfield (Mass.), the top-ranked team in Division III. Logan Baerenwald paced MSOE with nine kills in the 25-18, 25-22, 25-12 loss, where the Raiders hit .163 as a team.

This the 13th meeting ever between the Muskies and Raiders, which makes MSOE the most-played opponent for Lakeland since moving its program to the varsity level in 2014. The Raiders hold a 7-5 lead in the series and had won six straight before the Muskies' win last month.
