Shannon Bishop (
Jr.-River Grove, Ill.) led an effective and nearly flawless attack with 13 kills and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team swept Alverno College in three sets in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play Tuesday night.
The Muskies posted a 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 win to improve to 8-6 overall on the season. Lakeland also evened its record in the NACC at 1-1, bouncing back after a five-set loss to defending conference champion Concordia University Wisconsin last week.
The Muskies hit .397 for the match with 34 kills and just seven errors in 68 swings. Bishop finished with 13 kills without an error in 21 attempts (.619 attack percentage), and nine different players finished with at least two kills.
Lakeland dominated the second and third sets from the early going and ran away with a big run to finish the first set too. Alverno (2-13 overall, 0-2 NACC) hung in early and was first to 10 points with a 10-9 lead, but the Muskies took the lead for good with four straight points and then finished the set on a 12-2 run.
Neenah Primas (
So.-Oostburg, Wis.) finished with 16 assists and
Davan Fleming (
Jr.-Cremona, Alberta, Canada) added 11 assists.
Brianna Johnson (
Sr.-Altoona, Wis.) paced the back row with seven digs, and Bishop also added a team high four block assists.
The Muskies are back home Friday when they host Edgewood College for another NACC match at 7 p.m. at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
