Cougars get hat trick in 3-0 win over Muskies

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Ryan Kuhlman scored all three goals for Concordia University Chicago, providing the difference as the Lakeland University men's soccer team fell by a 3-0 score Saturday afternoon in its second Athletics Collegiate Conference match of the season.

Kuhlman scored the first goal of the match just 9 minutes, 49 seconds into the contest and then added two goals in the second half. The Cougars went on to their first NACC win of the season, while the Muskies are now 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Kuhlman scored first on a rebound off a shot by Gerardo Medina saved by Lakeland starting goalkeeper Tyson Carter (Fr.-Yakima, Wash.). He added a second goal in the 61st minute, heading in a cross from Jared Farnsworth, and his final goal came in the 79th minute when he converted a penalty kick.

Concordia (2-3 overall, 1-1 NACC) finished with a 23-10 advantage in shots, though the Muskies had some opportunities. Their closest chance came in the 70th minute, when Bonny Figueroa (Jr.-El Cajon, Calif.) hit the crossbar with a shot, and then Ryoto Kinoshita (Jr.-Kanagawa, Japan) tried to net the rebound but Cougars keeper Zach Adamec made the save.

Figueroa, Kinoshita, Cole Blandin (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and Hunter Gorges (Fr.-New London, Wis.) all also had shots on goal in the first half when the Muskies were still within a goal. Concordia finished with a 12-6 advantage in shot attempts.

Carter and Aaron Smith (Fr.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) split goalkeeping duties, with Carter making eight saves and Smith stopping four shots. Adamec made two saves and Jose Retana added four saves for CUC.

Lakeland is on the road again for its next match on Wednesday when it travels Highway 23 to face Marian University at 7 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
