After basking in the positive vibes of a win for nearly a week, the Lakeland University men's soccer team is back on the field to make its debut this season at Taylor Field when it hosts Maranatha Baptist University Saturday night at 6 p.m.
The Muskies have been idle since getting their first win of the season on Monday, defeating Finlandia (Mich.) University 1-0.
Hunter Gorges (
Fr.-New London, Wis.) scored the lone goal and
Austin Edge (
Sr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) and
Tyson Carter (
Fr.-Yakima, Wash.) combined on the shutout as Lakeland snapped a 19-match losing streak. The win also was the first under first-year head coach
Rick Mobley.
Maranatha Baptist enters with a 0-3 record after a 2-1 loss to North Central (Minn.) University on Thursday. The Sabercats have been close in all three outings, with three consecutive one-goal losses to start the season.
Maranatha won last year's meeting between the teams, taking a 4-1 decision in Watertown on Sept. 12, 2017.
John Bentler (Jr.-Seattle, Wash.) scored the lone Muskies goal, while Nathan Akers scored twice for the Sabercats.
