With season-best offensive performances in almost every area, the Lakeland University women's basketball team rolled to its ninth straight win, defeating Concordia University Chicago 90-62 Thursday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies set season highs for shooting percentage, three-pointers made and points, scorching the nets from the start and never trailing. Lakeland improved to 12-2 overall and 8-1 in the NACC and extended the program's longest winning streak since stringing together 13 straight victories in 2004-05.
The Muskies scored inside and out in shooting 55.4%, making 31 of 56 shots. That included a season-high 11 made three-pointers in 23 attempts (47.8%), as well as finishing with a 36-16 advantage in points in the paint.
Lakeland built a 15-2 lead in the first 4 minutes 12 seconds, and the lead ballooned to 27 by the second quarter on the way to a 48-25 halftime advantage. The Muskies shot 59.4% in the first half (19 of 32) and finished up making 12 of 24 (50%) in the final 20 minutes as well.
Miranda Jacobson (
Sr.-Felch, Mich.) and
Megan Will (
So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) both scored 21 points each, with Jacobson adding 12 rebounds and three steals and Will making 10 of 12 shots while adding seven boards.
Amanda Majewski (
Jr.-Peshtigo, Wis.) also scored a career-high 18 points, making 6 of 9 from three-point range.
Kacey Gardner (
Fr.-Evergreen Park, Ill.) also added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Lakeland also posted a season-high rebound margin, beating the Cougars 47-23 on the glass.
Concordia (4-10 overall, 4-7 NACC) shot 33.8%, making 22 of 65 shots, including 9 of 31 from three-point range (29.0%). Sam Bloom scored 14 points and McKayla Tilton added nine off the bench.
The Muskies now begin a stretch of six of their next nine games on the road, starting with a trip to Dominican University on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off in River Forest, Ill.
