Lakeland, Concordia to meet for 127th time on the hardwood

An 80-year old rivalry will resume Tuesday night as the Lakeland University men's basketball team hosts Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies and Falcons will square off for the first time this season and the 127th time in a series that dates all the way back to 1938, the sixth year of the Lakeland program and back when the school was known as Mission House College. The rivals have squared off many times over the years and frequently of late as both have been regular contenders in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Lakeland (6-9 overall, 4-6 NACC) lost to MSOE 82-72 in its last game on Saturday. The Muskies chopped a 16-point deficit late in the first half all the way down to one point on four occasions in the second half but could never get over the hump in losing to the Raiders for the second time this season. Pat McDonald scored 20 points and added seven rebounds.

Concordia (9-5 overall, 9-2 NACC) also comes in off a loss after Aurora topped the Falcons 81-76 on Saturday. The Falcons held a 13-point lead in the second half before the defending NACC Champion Spartans came storming back to hand CUW just its second loss in league play. Josh Gau scored 21 points, Andrew Fratzke scored 15 and Jordan Johnson added 14 for Concordia, which saw a four-game win streak stopped.

Lakeland and Concordia played three times a year ago, with the Falcons winning two of three including the most important one, a 99-85 win at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium in the NACC Tournament quarterfinals on Feb. 20, 2018. Lakeland won the first meeting at home, squeezing out a 91-88 win over Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 25, 2017, and Concordia came back with a 90-76 victory at home in Mequon on Jan. 13, 2018.

Live audio, video and statistics will be available at http://www.lakelandmuskies.com/muskieslive, with Andy Damp calling the play-by-play.
