MILWAUKEE – The Lakeland University women's basketball team held a sixth straight opponent below 50 points in defeating Alverno College 65-46 Saturday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game.
The Muskies won their eighth straight game, the program's longest win streak since winning nine in a row in 2011-12. Lakeland also moved into a tie for first place in the NACC after previously undefeated Wisconsin Lutheran College lost at Benedictine University on Saturday, putting the Muskies and Warriors both at 7-1 in the conference.
The Muskies (11-2 overall) outscored Alverno in all four quarters and trailed only once in the game for a total of 15 seconds in the middle of the first quarter. Lakeland led by seven after one quarter, built the lead up to 14 in the second quarter and kept a good working margin the rest of the way.
Miranda Jacobson (
Sr.-Felch, Mich.) and
Megan Will (
So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) both scored 14 points each, with Jacobson also leading the team with nine rebounds and Will adding seven boards.
Janai' Farr (
So.-Racine, Wis.) also added 13 points off the bench and
Amanda Majewski (
Jr.-Peshtigo, Wis.) scored 11 to give Lakeland four players in double figures while also adding five assists.
The Muskies shot 41.1% , making 23 of 56 shots. Lakeland also posted a 42-34 rebounding advantage, with Majewski and
Kacey Gardner (
Fr.-Evergreen Park, Ill.) both also adding six rebounds each.
Alverno (3-9 overall, 2-5 NACC) shot just 29.6%, making 16 of 54 shots, including 3 of 23 from three-point range. Kendra Patterson scored 17 and added seven rebounds, but no other player scored more than eight points or two field goals.
Lakeland is back home on Thursday when it welcomes Concordia University Chicago for a 7 p.m. start at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
