Muskies come up short against strong competition in the Show-Me State

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lakeland University women's volleyball team started off hot in two of its three matches by taking the first set, but ultimately fell to three tough opponents in the Baden Invite hosted by Washington University.

The Muskies opened play Friday with a four-set loss to the University of Dallas, winning the first set before falling 19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18. Lakeland then on Saturday faced in-state foe UW-Stout and again won the first set before dropping the match 13-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-12, and the Muskies also were defeated by host Washington-St. Louis 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 to close the tourney.\

Shannon Bishop (Sr.-River Grove, Wis.) and Abby Baumgartner (Jr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) once again led the Muskies' attack, combining for a total of 80 kills in the tournament with 43 and 37, respectively. Neenah Primas (Jr.-Oostburg, Wis.) improved her assists total with every match, finishing with 109 assists for the tourney including 33 against Dallas, 36 versus Stout and 40 against Washington-St. Louis.

Sydney Pingitore (So.-Kenosha, Wis.) paced the back row with 50 digs. Erin Iwanski (Sr.-St. Francis, Ill.) led the defense at the net with nine blocks.

The Muskies return to the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium this Wednesday when they host UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
