Muskies host Scarlet Hawks for Wednesday men's soccer matinee

Lakeland/Illinois Tech Game Notes   PDF

The Lakeland University men's soccer team will play its second-to-last home match of the season, and a rare mid-week game during daytime when it hosts Illinois Institute of Technology Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Taylor Field.

The Muskies and Scarlet Hawks will meet for just the third time ever, with previous meetings won by IIT last year and in 2004. Eighth-year Illinois Tech coach Marc Colwell has been on hand for all three games, including the first-ever meeting in 2004 when he was head coach of both the Lakeland men's and women's soccer teams.

Lakeland (3-13-1 overall, 0-8 NACC) was defeated last time out by conference co-leader Aurora 6-0 on the road Saturday. The Spartans jumped out to a lead less than three minutes into the match and scored five times in the first half on the way to staying perfect in NACC play. Aaron Smith and Alex VandenAvond were busy in goal, combining to stop 20 shots including 15 saves by Smith.

Illinois Tech (5-10-1 overall, 1-6-1 NACC) also was defeated on Saturday, falling to Concordia Wisconsin 3-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. The homestanding Falcons scored all three of their goals in the first half, including two goals just 1:31 apart starting with what proved to be the game-winner in the 12th minute. Evan De Broux made his first start of the season in goal and made seven saves while Alex Kern added two saves in the second half.
