Concordia University Chicago scored twice in each half on the way to defeating the Lakeland University women's soccer team 4-0 Saturday late afternoon in rainy and windy conditions at Taylor Field.
The Cougars won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup and posted the third win by a Concordia Chicago team over Lakeland on the day. CUC also defeated the Muskies in men's soccer and football games earlier in the day.
Concordia (2-8-2 overall, 2-2-1 NACC) was solidly in control almost the entire way, getting on the board with a goal by Janette Moreno just 6 minutes, 39 seconds into the match and leading the rest of the way. The Cougars finished with a 21-3 shot advantage, as opportunities were few and far between for the Muskies.
Lakeland (3-8-1 overall, 2-4 NACC) still was within a goal late in the first half before Concordia scored its second with just over five minutes left in the half. The score remained that way until the Cougars scored two more times in the late going, with tallies in the 70th and 76th minutes.
Abby Gastrau (
So.-Hartford, Wis.) put the lone shot on goal for the Muskies, and
Rachel Hasko (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) just missed her seventh goal of the season when she hit the crossbar in the final minutes.
Erin Tomlinson (
So.-Madison, Wis.) made 11 saves in goal for Lakeland.
Lakeland was scheduled to play Mount Mary University at home Monday night in a non-conference game, but that contest has been cancelled due to the Blue Angels being unable to field a full team that night due to academic commitments. The Muskies next will travel to Fond du Lac to face Marian University Wednesday at 7 p.m.
