Box Score DE PERE, Wis. – The Lakeland University women's volleyball team tuned up for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon at a quadrangular hosted by St. Norbert College.
The Muskies defeated host St. Norbert in four sets to open the day, finishing with a 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22 win. Lakeland then swept Lawrence University 25-23, 25-9, 25-22 to improve to 18-14 overall heading into its conference tournament first round game against Benedictine University Tuesday night.
The Muskies clinched a winning record overall on the season with the win over St. Norbert. Lakeland led most of the way through the match, though the Green Knights (22-8 overall) surged late in the second set and overcame a six-point deficit to draw even in the match for a time.
Shannon Bishop (
Sr.-River Grove, Ill.) finished with 15 kills plus 12 digs,
Abby Baumgartner (
Jr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) posted 11 kills and
Erin Iwanski (
Sr.-St. Francis, Wis.) added eight kills. Baumgartner also added three of the Muskies' 11 service aces.
Sydney Pingitore (
So.-Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 20 digs with
Allison Byrne (
Sr.-Luxemburg, Wis.) adding 16 digs.
Neenah Primas (
Jr.-Oostburg, Wis.) also totaled 40 assists and
Megan Goeser (
Jr.-Plymouth, Wis.) finished with six blocks in addition to seven kills.
Lakeland changed up the lineup some against Lawrence and prevailed in three sets, pulling out close games in the first and third and winning going away in the second.
Emily Bringer (
So.-Round Lake, Ill.) hammered home a career-high 11 kills and hit .409 for the match with just two errors in 22 attacks. Bishop also came in with nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage and
Natalie Borman (
Jr.-Harvard, Ill.) added seven kills.
Pingitore paced the back row with 12 digs and also added three aces and Primas totaled 24 assists on setting duty.
Lakeland is the No. 3 seed in the NACC Tournament and will host Benedictine Tuesday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The winner advances to face second-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin Thursday night in Mequon.
