PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville came out red-hot and shot 57.1% for the game in defeating Lakeland University 78-40 Friday night in a non-conference women's basketball game.
The Pioneers shot 66.7% in the first half and made 32 of 56 shots for the game in taking the first meeting between the schools since 2002. Lakeland dropped to 3-7 overall in its final game of 2019 before a 15-day layoff until its next game.
UW-Platteville (7-2 overall) was ranked in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll last week and was among teams receiving votes this week, and the Pioneers were in charge from early on. UWP scored the game's first nine points, built a 24-9 lead after one quarter and led 47-21 at halftime after making 20 of 30 shots from the field in the first 20 minutes.
The Muskies were unable to make a dent in that margin in the second half. Lakeland shot 29.8% for the game, making 14 of 47 shots, including 3 of 15 from three-point range.

Jr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) scored eight points and added four rebounds off the bench, both game highs for the Muskies.
Rachel Hasko (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) added seven points and both
Janai' Farr (
Jr.-Racine, Wis.) and
Hayley Walding (
So.-Bradenton, Fla.) chipped in five points each.
Maiah Domask finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds for Platteville and Jai Clemons added 12 points, including four three-pointers. The Pioneers made 7 of 20 from three-point range (35.0%) and also owned a huge 43-16 rebounding advantage.
