FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Connor Hilburn (
Jr.-Rancho Santo Margarita, Calif.) finished with four hits and accounted for much of his team's run production but the Lakeland University baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader with Skidmore (N.Y.) College Wednesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Games.
The Thoroughbreds won the first game by a 10-2 score and then came back with a 9-2 win in the second part of the twinbill. The Muskies slipped to 0-5 on the season and on their spring break trip to Florida.
Hilburn had his best day of the young season, going 4-for-5 over the two contests. The junior doubled twice and drove in three runs, including a pair of run-scoring hits to drive in both runs in the second game.
Alberto Oliveras (
So.-Fort Myers, Fla.) also added three hits on the day plus two runs scored. Lakeland received contributions from a number of players at the plate, with eight different players finishing with at least one hit on the day.
Chase Grasso (
Fr.-McHenry, Ill.) also added an RBI single in the second inning of the first game that gave the Muskies a 1-0 lead. Hilburn's double to drive in Oliveras in the third put Lakeland back ahead 2-1, but Skidmore came back with three in the fourth and added four more in the sixth.
The Muskies had a tough day in the field with four errors in each game which led to six unearned runs in each game.
Collin Schutz (
So.-Saint Amant, La.) took the loss in the first game, allowing three hits and four runs (three earned) in three-plus innings, while
Noah Suissa (
So.-Belmont, Calif.) pitched 1 1/3 and allowed one hit and four runs (one earned) with two strikeouts and five walks in the second game.
