AURORA, Ill. – Aurora University was efficient on the attack and potent on serve in defeating the Lakeland University men's volleyball team in three sets Friday night at Thornton Gymnasium in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The Spartans emerged from a tight first set and finished with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 sweep. Aurora also completed a sweep of the teams' NACC home-and-home this season, having also topped the Muskies in four sets back on Feb. 8.

Aurora (8-9 overall, 7-4 NACC) hit .352 as a team with 32 kills and just seven errors in 71 attack attempts. On top of that, the Spartans also posted 11 service errors and added eight team blocks in the victory.

Lakeland (9-12 overall, 3-9 NACC) hit .176 as a team (31 kills, 16 errors), but actually stayed right with Aurora's hitting pace in the first two sets. The Muskies posted 27 kills and just nine errors in hitting .281 despite falling down 0-2 in the match, before a rough third set that included just four kills and seven errors.

Nathan Vanderwaal (Jr.-Rockford, Ill.) finished with 12 kills and just three errors in 23 swings for a .391 hitting percentage. Desmond Williams (Sr.-Riverside, Calif.) added eight kills, Cameron Ekum (So.-Mukwonago, Wis.) and finished with 25 assists and eight digs and J.T. Levitt (Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) added 11 digs.

Justin Elliott led the Spartans with 11 kills and also added five service aces. Tim Breiter added seven kills and three aces and Anthony Panizzi finished with six block assists.

Lakeland is right back on the court Saturday when it takes on Concordia University Chicago at 1 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
