MEQUON, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's volleyball team clinched a spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament and climbed back to the .500 mark with a four-set win over Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies defeated the Falcons 25-19, 13-25, 25-19, 25-18 to sweep both regular season matchups between the teams. Lakeland wrapped up the No. 5 seed in the NACC tourney and will travel to face either Aurora University or Marian University in a first round game April 9.
The Muskies also moved to 12-12 overall (6-9 NACC), their first time breaking even in their season record since mid-February. Lakeland's third straight win came with a dominant performance in the first, third and fourth sets to easily offset a rough second set.
The Muskies led from the start in the third and fourth sets and trailed only briefly at the start of the first set. Lakeland posted 13 of its 28 hitting errors in the second set when it hit at a -.103 rate, but otherwise hit a solid .234 over the other three sets. The Muskies finished hitting .135 with 46 kills and 28 errors.
Nathan Vanderwaal (
Jr.-Rockford, Ill.) finished with 16 kills and both
Desmond Williams (
Sr.-Riverside, Calif.) and
Dakota Hunter (
Sr.-Waukesha, Wis.) added 11 kills each.
Cameron Ekum (
So.-Mukwonago, Wis.) finished 36 assists and 11 digs and
J.T. Levitt (
Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) led the back row defense with 12 digs.
Isaac Glynn paced Concordia (8-13 overall, 4-10 NACC) with 10 kills and also added 10 digs. James Althoff also added a match-high 17 digs, and the Falcons also finished with an 11-5 advantage in blocks.
Lakeland closes out its regular season in one week when it hosts Illinois Institute of Technology for Senior Day at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium at 1 p.m.
