Nathan Hemmerling (
Fr.-Riverside, Calif.) delivered another excellent start and Lakeland University defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 6-2 in the first game of the teams' Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies took advantage of six Concordia errors in the first game before the Falcons turned the tables for a win in the second game by the same 6-2 score. Lakeland continued to be competitive in conference play and has split its last 10 conference games.
Hemmerling pitched 8 2/3 innings in the opener in earning his third win of the season and third straight victory. He allowed seven hits and two runs with nine strikeouts and one walk in his fourth game in six starts with at least eight strikeouts.
Concordia scored its only two runs off Hemmerling in the first inning when a string of three straight two-out hits was capped by a two-run double by Tyler Haffey. Lakeland (5-20 overall, 5-9 NACC) scored once in the bottom of the inning when
Jack Banks (
Jr.-Mountain View, Calif.) scored following the first Falcon error, and then took the lead in the fifth inning with four runs coming without a hit.
Concordia (11-15 overall, 7-7 NACC) committed four errors in the inning, all on the infield. Banks,
Alberto Oliveras (
So.-Fort Myers, Fla.) Â and
Connor Hilburn (
Jr.-Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) all scored on errors, and a wild pitch also allowed
Travis Regalado (Sr.-Willcox, Ariz.) to score another run.
Lakeland added an insurance run in the eighth when Hilburn drilled a two-out double to score
Justin Wahl Adame (
So.-Riverside, Calif.). Hemmerling worked into the ninth until a single and an error put two runners on with two outs, when
Ryan Oharriz (
Sr.-Pembroke Pines, Fla.) came on to get the final out and record his first save of the season.
Banks and
Chase Grasso (
Fr.-McHenry, Ill.) both had two hits as Lakeland outhit Concordia 9-7 in the first game. The Muskies also outhit the Falcons 8-7 in the second game, but CUW took advantage of six walks and five hit batsmen by Lakeland pitchers.
The Falcons scored twice in the first to take the lead and then added two more runs in the sixth for a 4-0 lead. Concordia added two more runs in the ninth to stretch the lead back out to 6-2, needing just one hit in each of its three scoring frames to score six times.

Gio Ramirez (
So.-Chicago, Ill.), and Regalado followed with a single down the right field line to score Wahl Adame.
Regalado went 3-for-4 and Wahl Adame added two hits in the second game.
Carter Chapman (
So.-Costa Mesa, Calif.) took the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing a hit, two runs and three walks. Oharriz came on in the first and would pitching five innings in relief, allowing four hits and two runs with three strikeouts.
The Muskies return to play Monday when they travel to face Illinois Tech for a doubleheader starting at noon in Chicago.
