Ryan Schopf has stepped down as head men's volleyball coach at Lakeland University, Director of Athletics
April Arvan has announced.
Schopf held dual roles as Lakeland's men's and women's volleyball coach the past four years, and will continue the role of head women's volleyball coach he has held the past five years and was initially hired for at Lakeland in 2014.
Schopf coached the Muskies men's team for the past four years, posting a 52-55 overall record. He led the team to a pair of winning records and five wins over nationally ranked teams while every year playing difficult schedules heavy on ranked opponents. Lakeland finished 14-13 this season, advancing to the semifinals of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament before bowing out to eventual champion MSOE.
"It is time for me to step down as the men's volleyball coach," said Schopf. "I have cherished the four years with the guys and have made many friendships that will last while coaching the men's game. It is time for me to focus more on my family and the women's program. I have all the confidence in the world that Lakeland will hire the right coach and take Lakeland men's volleyball to the next level."
Schopf also has an 86-78 record in five years as Lakeland's women's volleyball coach. The Muskies enjoyed their best season under his direction this past fall, finishing 22-11 overall-the most wins for the program in a season since 2009-and posting a 9-3 mark in the NACC.
"Coach
Ryan Schopf is a tireless worker both at Lakeland University and the volleyball community as a whole," said Arvan. "He is a trusted and valued colleague in our athletic department and our University. While his career with the men's volleyball program is coming to an end, I am excited that he will continue the strong tradition of the women's program set many years ago."
