Jared Nummerdor (
Sr.-Waupun, Wis.) earned a three-set win at No. 1 singles as the Lakeland University men's tennis team earned its first dual win of the season, topping Concordia University Chicago Saturday morning at Sports Core.
The Muskies scored a 7-2 win over the Cougars in the first of two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference duals on the day. Lakeland was defeated by Dominican 9-0 in the second.
Nummerdor posted his first singles win of the season and was one of four Muskies to take part in a win on the court, with Lakeland (1-8 overall, 1-3 NACC) also winning three matches by default against the shorthanded Cougars.
Nick Lange (
Jr.-Mukwonago, Wis.) also defeated Andrew Rodriguez at No. 3 singles by a 7-5, 6-3 score. Freshman
Jacob Larson (
Wauwatosa, Wis.) also moved to 5-3 at No. 4 singles this year with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Concordia's Trey Dille.
Larson and
Bill Behrmann (
Sr.-Long Lake, Wis.) also teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Dille and Rodriguez. Lange and Nummerdor also just missed a win at No. 1 doubles, going to a tiebreaker before falling to Orlando Hayes and Peter Rios.
Lakeland lost all nine of its matches against Dominican (4-3 overall, 2-2 NACC) but was competitive in most, including a pair of tiebreaker losses.
Larson stepped up to No. 3 singles and pushed Brandon Pineda before losing 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. He also was paired with Larson at No. 3 doubles, with the duo falling to Samuel Pardinas and Eric Sigaran 8-7, including 10-6 in the tiebreak.
The Muskies are idle until next Saturday when they'll take on Marian University at 10 a.m. in Fond du Lac.
