Hunter Frisk (
Fr.-Manteca, Calif.) hit safely in both games and drove in a pair of runs as one of the few bright spots for the Lakeland University baseball team in two losses to Carthage College Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Men won both ends of the non-conference twinbill, first taking the opening nine-inning game 11-2 before also claiming an 8-0 win in the second game, which was scheduled for seven innings.
Frisk was the only Muskie to hit safely in both games, singling in both to come up with two of the team's eight hits. His single in the fifth inning of the first game got Lakeland (2-17 overall) on the board, cutting into a 5-0 deficit after Carthage had scored four times in the top of the inning.
The Muskies were hurt by the Red Men (14-10 overall) putting up multiple crooked numbers in both games. Carthage scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth in the first game, and also scored three times in two separate frames in the second game.
Nathan Hemmerling (
Fr.-Riverside, Calif.) had a pair of hits in the opener and scored a run.
Mason Valenstein (
Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) also singled and scored and
Jack Banks (
Jr.-Mountain View, Calif.) added two hits.
Collin Schutz (
So.-Saint Amant, La.) started the opener and went 5 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs (six earned).
Tayler Johann (
Jr.-Colleyville, Texas) started the second and allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 innings.
Brandon Janowicz (
Fr.-Rolling Meadows, Ill.) also pitched a scoreless inning in both contests, helping absorb some innings for a pitching staff kept plenty busy of late with games each of the last four days.
Luke Beckmann doubled twice as part of his four hits in the first game for the Red Men. Beckmann also drove in four runs. Ryan Kramer also added five hits, five runs scored and four RBIs over the two games.
Lakeland will get a break for the rest of the week as it is off until facing Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon in Milwaukee.
