RIPON – A pair of narrow doubles losses proved to be the best chances for a win for the Lakeland University women's tennis team as it was swept by Ripon College in a non-conference dual to open its season Friday.

The Red Hawks posted a 9-0 win in the head coaching debut of Lakeland coach Brittany Jurek, consistently coming out ahead in a dual where almost every dual was competitive. The Muskies especially played well at doubles, just missing out on wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Ellie Roe (Jr.-Plymouth, Wis.) and Abby Juozapaitis (Jr.-North Prairie, Wis.) comprised Lakeland's No. 1 doubles team, and the duo lost a narrow 8-6 decision to Hannah Ryback and Tamera Holland. The team of Kallie Hoeft (So.-Cascade, Wis.) and Jessica Leicht (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) came even closer at No. 3 doubles, falling 8-7 to Sarah Weber and Madison Rostollan.

Juozapaitis had the best performance for the Muskies in singles, nearly winning the first set before falling to MacKenzie Warner 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Morgan Erbstoesser (Fr.-Union, Ill.) also was defeated by Rostollan 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, while Roe fell to Ryback 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Annie Adams (Fr.-Marinette, Wis.) was defeated by Holland by the same score at No. 4 singles.

Lakeland opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play this coming Wednesday when it travels to take on Alverno College in Milwaukee at the McKinley Park Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
