HANCOCK, Mich. –
Rachel Hasko (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) scored her third goal of the season but the Lakeland University women's soccer team was defeated by Finlandia (Mich.) University 3-1 Saturday morning in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Muskies and Lions did all their scoring in the first half but Finlandia built a two-goal lead by the break and led the rest of the way. Finlandia improved to 4-1 on the season while Lakeland dropped to 1-3-1 overall.
The host Lions were on the board less than two minutes into the game as Mylea Harangozo scored with assists from Kirsten L'Esperance and Molly Berg. The score would stay that way for more than 30 minutes until Hasko scored unassisted at 32:31 of the match to briefly knot the score at 1-1.
Finlandia answered quickly, with L'Esperance scoring off a centering pass from Daisia Knowles at 35:27 to make it 2-1, and the Lions added a big insurance score just before halftime from Addie Budzinski in the 43rd minute to make it 3-1.
Finlandia controlled play with a 23-7 shots advantage for the game, and the Muskies put just one shot on goal in the second half, a blast from
Jenna Borts (
Jr.-Oak Creek, Wis.) in the 77th minute.
Borts and
Allison Morgan (
Fr.-Fredericksburg, Va.) led Lakeland with two shot attempts each, and Morgan joined Borts and Hasko as the three Muskies to put shots on goal.
Erin Tomlinson (
So.-Madison, Wis.) played in goal and saved six shots for Lakeland, while Samantha Linteo made two saves for the Lions, who won their fourth straight match.
The Muskies are right back on the field Sunday when they host Lawrence University at 4:30 p.m. at Taylor Field.
