CARLINVILLE, Ill. –
Rachel Hasko (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) scored the golden goal just over two minutes into the second overtime period and the Lakeland University women's soccer team topped Blackburn (Ill.) College 2-1 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.
The Muskies earned their first win of the season, rebounding from a 2-0 loss to MacMurray (Ill.) College in their opener to close out their Labor Day weekend trip to Illinois with a victory.
Hasko scored both goals for Lakeland (1-1 overall), including the winner at 102:19 of the match in the second overtime off an assist by
Amanda Buckler (
So.-Sheridan, Wyo.). A senior midfielder who led the team in goals last year, Hasko also christened the Muskies' scoring for the season with the game's first goal just 7:31 in off an assist from
Hope Cerney (
Jr.-Green Bay, Wis.).
Lakeland led 1-0 into halftime after pounding Blackburn's goal to the tune of a 26-4 advantage in shots in the first half. The Muskies' inability to pad their margin was magnified when the Beavers tied the score just past the midway point of the second half on a goal by Lexi Lusk.
Lakeland finished the match with a whopping 45-13 advantage in shots, including Hasko with 13 shots, Cerney with 10 and
Jenna Borts (
Jr.-Oak Creek, Wis.) with six. Morgan Zobrist made 17 saves in defeat for Blackburn (0-2 overall).
Erin Tomlinson (

Lakeland next will play its home opener when it welcomes UW-Superior for a 9 a.m. kickoff Saturday at Taylor Memorial Field.
