Karoline Haugland and Isabel Downs both posted hat tricks and Concordia University Wisconsin remained undefeated by defeating the Lakeland University women's soccer team 7-0 Saturday at Taylor Field.
An already bruised Muskies team dealing with a number of injuries ran into a strong opponent, and the Falcons scored six times in the first half and controlled possession throughout to win the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener for both teams.
Haugland scored three goals in the first half, all in succession less than eight minutes apart. Downs added a pair of goals in the first half to open the game's scoring, and also added one more goal in the second half.
Haugland also added two assists and Selena Esten assisted on three Concordia (5-0 overall) goals. Allison McElwee also added a goal and the Falcons finished with a 40-2 advantage in shots.
Lakeland (1-5-1 overall) had few chances offensively, though it did get to the doorstep in the second half with freshman
Samantha Guzman (
Random Lake, Wis.) getting a shot from close range that was stopped by CUW keeper Kaeley Sterkel.
Zeni Yacab (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) added a long shot on target in the first half that Sterkel corralled.
Erin Tomlinson (
So.-Madison, Wis.) was busy in goal and made 13 saves for Lakeland. The Muskies also foiled another near goal for the Falcons when
Rachel Wilson (
Jr.-Gilbert, Ariz.) cleared a ball away just before it crossed the goal line in the second half.
Lakeland is home again for its next game Wednesday when it faces another NACC power as it hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. at Taylor Field.
