Four different players scored goals and
Jenna Borts (
Jr.-Oak Creek, Wis.) assisted on two scores as the Lakeland University women's soccer team defeated Rockford University 4-0 Saturday at Taylor Field.
The Muskies scored twice in each half and dominated possession in earning their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season. Lakeland also snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 2-6-1 overall and 1-2 in conference.
The Muskies outshot the Regents 33-1 for the match and gained the upper hand on the scoreboard just over seven minutes into the match.
Abby Gastrau (
So.-Hartford, Wis.) crossed a pass from the left wing towards former high school teammate
Skylar Garza (
So.-Hartford, Wis.) that was deflected by a defender by went right to Garza, who scored just inside the left post for her first tally of the season.
Lakeland scored again late in the first half with the first of two assists from Borts as she fed Buckler in the corner on the right side, and
Amanda Buckler (
So.-Sheridan, Wyo.) scored from a sharp angle just inside the penalty area. The Muskies took the two-goal lead into halftime and then scored again in the 55th minute when
Rachel Hasko (
Sr.-Racine, Wis.) was the recipient of a cross from Buckler and scored right in front of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Lakeland added one more goal in the 82nd minute. Borts served a perfectly served corner kick that
Elizabeth Siebert (
Sr.-Mount Pulaski, Ill.) deflected off the keeper and into the net for her first goal of the season.
Hasko finished with nine shot attempts, Gastrau attempted five shots and just missed on several opportunities, and Borts and
Allison Morgan (
Fr.-Fredricksburg, Va.) also did good work in the midfield and added four shots each.
Lakeland is home again tomorrow when it welcomes Alverno College for a 3 p.m. start at Taylor Field.
