Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regents get first NACC win, deny Muskies the same

Rockford University scored twice in just over a minute in the first half and the Lakeland University men's soccer team played from behind the rest of the way in a 4-0 loss Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.

The Regents won a battle of two teams looking for their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season, going on the road and controlling play much of the way. Rockford improved to 4-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the NACC, while Lakeland dropped to 3-7-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

David Munch scored twice and Alonzo Carrillo and Saeed Alqahtani added goals for the Regents. It was Carrillo who opened the scoring early when Cruz Marquez chipped a long through ball up the middle against the Muskies defense, with Carrillo getting behind the defense and scoring one-on-one at 22 minutes 39 seconds of the match.

It was just 64 seconds later when the Regents struck again, once again coming up the middle of the field quickly Ivaan Gomez passing ahead to Adam Pedro, who quickly flipped it to Munch who one-timed a shot just past goalkeeper Alex VandenAvond (So.-Luxemburg, Wis.) and inside the left post.

Rockford added a third goal less than four minutes into the second half, as Munch took the ball away from a defender just outside the penalty area and scored into the upper left corner of the net to make it 3-0. Alqahtani added a final goal in the 68th minute after winning another ball from a defender and scoring unassisted for his first of the season.

The Regents finished with a 20-6 advantage in shots, with John Bentler (Sr.-Seattle, Wash.) and David Piotter (Fr.-New London, Wis.) leading the team with two shot attempts each. Keaton Vogel (Fr.-Chaska, Minn.) added a shot attempt in a stint up front in the final minutes.

VandenAvond made seven saves in goal while Francesco Martincig made two saves for Rockford.

The Muskies look to bounce back in their next match Wednesday when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. at Taylor Field.
