Curtiss Dokey (So.-Manitowoc, Wis.) defeated Lakeland University Esports teammate Byron Dean Monday night to clinch a spot in the first New England Collegiate Conference Madden Final.

In the semifinal matchup, Dokey completed a 2-0 sweep of Dean with a 28-7 victory in game one and a 21-17 win in a tight game two.

Dokey jumped out to a 7-0 lead after an 11-play, 75 yard drive to open game one. Two straight interceptions, including a 70-yard return for a touchdown, pushed Dokey's lead to 21-0 at halftime. Dean got on the scoreboard on the first play of the fourth quarter to cut his deficit to 21-7, but Dokey added another touchdown on the ensuing drive to win game one 28-7.

Dean turned the tables in game two, as he returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game to take an early 7-0 lead. Dokey responded with a touchdown of his own four plays later to tie the game at the two-minute mark in the first quarter.

It looked as if Dokey would take his first lead of the game at the beginning of the second quarter, but Dean picked off a pass at the one-yard line and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-7. Dokey methodically went the length of the field and closed the first half with a one-yard touchdown pass to tie the game 14-14.

Dean regained his lead with a 36-yard field goal with 1:29 remaining in the third. Dokey once again took his time and scored a touchdown at the two-minute mark of the fourth quarter to go back up 21-17. Dean slowly worked his way up the field but threw an interception with 0:12 remaining, sealing the game two and series victory for Dokey.

Dokey remains undefeated and will face the 2 seed Danny McGee of Carroll University in the NECC Finals Friday at 6 p.m. Fans can watch that game on the NECC Twitch channel at: twitch.tv/necc_esports.
