Erbstoesser, Hoeft, Cha winners but Muskies fall to Sabres in women’s tennis dual

KOHLER – Morgan Erbstoesser (Jr.-Union, Ill.) won in singles play for the second time this season, providing one of the highlights in the Lakeland University women's tennis team's 7-2 loss to Marian University Saturday morning at Sports Core.

Erbstoesser blanked Katrina Pokorny 6-0, 6-0 at Number 6 singles but the Muskies dropped to 1-8 overall on the season and 1-6 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches. Marian improved to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the NACC.

Lakeland also picked up its first win of the day in doubles, as Bobainah Cha (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and Kallie Hoeft (Jr.-Cascade, Wis.) also earned an 8-1 win over Marian's Madeline Chimenti and Julia Loomans at No. 2 doubles. It was the first win of the season for the duo in six matches.

The Muskies' closest loss in singles came from Jessica Leicht (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.), who was defeated 6-4, 6-3 by Chimenti at No. 4 singles. Clare Kelnhofer (Fr.-Brandon, Wis.) also played at No. 3 for the first time this season and picked up a pair of games in a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Loomans.

Kelnhofer and Leicht also were defeated 8-3 by Pokorny and Abby Okon at No. 3 doubles. Baylee Babcock (So.-Mauston, Wis.) and Sadie Conway (So.-Monroe, Wis.) also teamed up at No. 1 doubles and fell 8-2 to Marian's Aeryn Olson and Carly Paulson.

The Muskies are in action again Sunday when they travel to take on Concordia University Chicago at 12:30 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
