WAUWATOSA, Wis. –
Michecadet Gethand (
So.-Jackson, Wis.) recorded his first collegiate hat trick and provided all the firepower the Lakeland University men's soccer team would need in a 3-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College Wednesday night.
Gethand scored three times, tallying goals four, five and six on the season and giving the Muskies their second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win. Lakeland won on the road for the second time in eight days and moved to 3-6-1 overall and 2-5 in the NACC while knocking off a Lutheran team above it in the standings.
Gethand's hat trick was the first by a Muskie since Ben Koepsell accomplished the feat, also against Wisconsin Lutheran. Lakeland also snapped a losing streak to the Warriors that dated back nearly ten years to that game, a 6-2 victory Oct. 22, 2011. WLC had won nine straight since then, including a 3-2 win at the Muskies' Taylor Field in March in the NACC's short 2020-21 spring season.
Gethand scored the first goal at 17 minutes, 46 seconds of the match, receiving an assist from
Andres Gonzalez (
So.-Jamul, Calif.). He would score a second goal in the 28th minute, scoring unassisted to give Lakeland a two-goal lead.
The Muskies would extend the lead just over seven minutes into the second half with
Michael Barragan (
So.-Milwaukee, Wis.) assisting as Gethand scored again to give Lakeland three goals in a match for just the second time this season.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-7 overall, 3-3 NACC) got one goal back on a penalty kick at 56:59 of the match, converted by Jason Cano. The Warriors would pressure in the second half but
Zach Heiman (
So.-Racine, Wis.) had to make just one save the rest of the way and three for the match to pick up his third win of the season.
WLC outshot Lakeland 19-12 but the Muskies finished with a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. The Warriors also attempted ten corner kicks, and a chippy match included eight yellow cards between the two teams.
The Muskies now come home to begin a four-game homestand starting Saturday against Rockford University at 1:30 p.m. at Taylor Field.
