Series history:Â 13th meeting, Lakeland leads 6-4-2
The series between the Muskies and Regents dates back to 2008 and was first dominated by Lakeland but has seen the tables turn of late. Rockford has defeated the Muskies four straight times, including a 4-0 win at Taylor Field Sept. 28, 2019 in the team's last meeting. Lakeland has to go back to 2015 for its last win over the Regents, a 5-2 victory on its former home field across campus in a game where Franco Herrera and Grant Meerdink scored two goals each and Mirko Tadic piled up three assists. The Muskies went 6-0-2 in the first eight meetings, including a 5-1 win Sept. 27, 2008 in the first one as Ryan Malo scored twice.
Lakeland last time out: Won at Wisconsin Lutheran 3-1 Wednesday
The Muskies were victorious on the road for the second straight Wednesday night.
Michecadet Gethand scored all three goals, notching Lakeland's first hat trick in 10 years as the Muskies topped the Warriors for the first time in 10 years. Gethand scored twice in the first half and added a third goal early in the second half for a 3-0 lead.
Andres Gonzalez and
Michael Barragan added assists and
Zach Heiman made three saves in goal to earn the win.
Rockford last time out: Lost to Concordia Chicago 2-1 in OT Wednesday
The Regents were on the doorstep of victory earlier this week, holding a 1-0 lead late into the second half before the Cougars rallied late to tie and then scored early in overtime to win. Miguel Gallardo broke a scoreless tie in the 74th minute to get Rockford a 1-0 lead, and the Regents held the lead until Concordia tied it with just 3:09 remaining in regulation on a goal by Ryan Kuhlman. CUC then needed just 53 seconds of overtime to score the golden goal by Devin Madson. The Cougars outshot the Regents 16-10 and Jonathan Eduardo Rosales made four save in goal for Rockford.
The Regents slipped back to the .500 mark in conference play but still have been a pleasant surprise, already tying their previous best for NACC wins in a season with three. The five overall wins are also just three short of the program's previous best since joining the NACC in 2008.
