PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's soccer team couldn't find the back of the net against a tough Concordia University Wisconsin defense in a 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Taylor Field.
One goal was all the Falcons (3-1 overall, 3-1 NACC North) needed to come away with a win against Lakeland and stay atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference North Division standings. The Muskies dropped to 1-2-1 overall and in the NACC North after their second one-goal loss of the season.
The goal came midway through the first half when Manuel Brito took a shot from 15 yards out off a pass from Gilberto Gomez. The ball hit off the right post and bounced into the goal to give the Falcons what turned into the game-winning goal at the 24:32 mark.
The Muskies had few offensive chances as the Falcons posted a 10-2 shots advantage, but their best chance came with nine minutes left in the game. The Muskies stole a pass deep in CUW territory, but
Rommel Gouala (
Fr.-Madison, Wis.) couldn't capitalize on a one-on-one opportunity as Falcons goalkeeper Mattson Wick kept Gouala's shot from finding the goal.
Carson Galla (
Fr.-Deerfield, Wis.) logged another quality start as the Muskies' goalkeeper, saving seven shots. Wick earned a shutout win for Concordia by saving Lakeland's lone shot on goal.
The Muskies are off until this Saturday, April 3, when they host Edgewood College at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last week's 2-2 tie in Madison.
