MEQUON, Wis. –
Amanda Heimos (
Fr.-Cary, Ill.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career, but that was the lone score for the Lakeland University women's soccer team in a 7-1 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.
Lakeland (1-2 overall, 1-2 NACC North) had a tough time stopping a potent Concordia Wisconsin (3-0 overall, 3-0 NACC North) offense that has outscored opponents 16-2 in three games this season.
Selena Esten led the Falcons attack, recording her first hat trick of the season and bringing her season total up to eight goals. Karoline Haugland, who scored a hat trick in last year's win over Lakeland, picked up two goals, and Isabel Downs and Madelaine Specht each added a goal.
The Muskies got on the board late in the second half when Heimos scored at 76 minutes, 23 seconds of the match. After a shot from
Abby Gastrau (
Jr.-Hubertus, Wis.) bounced off the crossbar, Heimos charged in for the rebound and got the header to go in for her first career goal.
Esten also assisted on two of the Falcon goals, while Haugland, Downs, and Allison McElwee each picked up an assist. Concordia Wisconsin finished with a 40-9 advantage in shots in the win.
Heimos recorded two of Lakeland's three shots on goal.
Faith Turley (
Fr.-Lincoln, Ill.) also added a shot at net coming in the sixth minute.
Erin Tomlinson (
Jr.-Madison, Wis.) was busy in net, snagging 12 saves in 90 minutes of action. Kaeley Sterkel started in goal for the Falcons and picked up one save in the first half before Naomi Gruben took over and recorded a save of her own in the second half.
The Muskies have the next two days off before traveling to Alverno College Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. rematch of both teams' season opener last Sunday.
