RIPON, Wis. –
Megan Goeser (
Sr.-Plymouth, Wis.) and
Abby Baumgartner (
Sr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) combined for 21 kills with efficient performances and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team swept Ripon College Tuesday night in a non-conference match.
The Muskies cruised to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 win for their third straight win and third in a row via sweep. Lakeland moved to 5-5 on the year and is at the .500 mark overall for the first time this season.
Goeser posted 11 kills and Baumgartner added 10 kills, and both finished with just one error each in 24 attacks for each player. The two led a Muskies attack that included 37 kills and just nine errors in 99 attempts for a .283 hitting percentage.
Lakeland took the first and third sets convincingly against the Red Hawks, who were playing their first match of a short spring season. Ripon issued its strongest challenge in the second set, which was tied on 10 occasions and where the hosts led 17-16 in the late going before the Muskies went on an 8-2 run which included service aces by
Brelynn Scoles (
Fr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) and
Emily Duchow (
So.-Potter, Wis.) and four errors by the Red Hawks.
Natalie Borman (
Sr.-Harvard, Ill.) and
Katie Metzler (
Fr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) added four kills each for Lakeland.
Neenah Primas (
Sr.-Oostburg, Wis.) posted 28 assists plus 10 digs, and
Sydney Pingitore (
Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) paced the team with 15 digs and added three service aces.
Emily Allard led Ripon with a match-high 14 kills, nearly half of her team's total of 29 kills as the Red Hawks hit .133 as a team. Micaela Encarnacion added 22 digs.
The Muskies now get ready to travel to the AVCA Division III Invitational tourney at The Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend. Lakeland will play in pool play on Friday with best-of-three matches against Transylvania (Ky.) University, Greenville (Ill.) University and Illinois Wesleyan University, before entering bracket play Saturday.
