Lakeland University was competitive in almost every match but Ripon College defeated the Muskies 9-0 in a non-conference dual between the schools Wednesday evening.

Lakeland opened its season by taking at least two games in eight of nine matches. The Muskies' best performance on the scoreboard in singles came from Bobainah Cha (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) falling 6-3, 6-3 to Halle Hadel at No. 5 singles, while Baylee Babcock (So.-Mauston, Wis.) and Sadie Conway (So.-Monroe, Wis.) also pushed Hannah Ryback and Brianna Bembenek before falling 8-4 at No. 1 singles.

Morgan Erbstoesser (Jr.-Union, Ill.) also was defeated by Chase Polyak 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, and she paired with Clare Kelnhofer (Fr.-Brandon, Wis.) in an 8-2 loss to Emma Ziebell and Tia Endrizzi at No. 3 doubles. Kallie Hoeft (Jr.-Cascade, Wis.) and Jessica Leicht (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) also were defeated 8-2 at No. 2 doubles by Polyak and Tamera Holland.

The Muskies get a 10-day break before getting back to play when they travel to the Milwaukee area to face Alverno College and then Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday, Sept. 11.
