The Lakeland University men's and women's soccer teams both dropped matches to Dominican University by identical 5-0 scores Saturday afternoon in River Forest, Ill.
The Muskies faced tall tasks on the road against Dominican teams that both annually rank among the best in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and both Lakeland teams dropped to 0-2 in conference play so far this season. The Lakeland men's team is now 1-3-1 overall while the Muskies women's squad dropped to 0-6.
The men's match saw the Stars (5-1 overall, 2-0 NACC) score a flurry of goals in the first half, tallying all five of their goals in the match's first 28 minutes, 19 seconds. Giacomo Parrino scored three times and Dominican outshot the Muskies 21-3 for the match.
Zach Heiman made eight saves in goal for Lakeland, while
Gavin Pinchart notched the lone shot on goal for the Muskies in the first half.
The Lakeland women's team held Dominican (3-1-2 overall) scoreless until just past the midway point of the first half, when the Stars struck for two goals in a span of 1:22. Dominican added a third score on an own goal in the 39th minute, and then scored twice in the second half to pull away.
Erin Tomlinson and
Haley Rich combined to make seven saves in goal for the Muskies.
Roza Bonner registered both of Lakeland's shot attempts on goal, both coming in the second half.
