Series history: All-time records are incomplete, but Lakeland and Milwaukee School of Engineering have been meeting since at least 1983. The Raiders hold a 28-16-3 lead in known matches since 1983, but the teams split two matchups in the 2020-21 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference spring season. Lakeland won the first meeting on March 17 as
Michecadet Gethand scored the match's lone goal in a 1-0 victory, but MSOE bounced back for a 2-0 win in Milwaukee April 6. MSOE had won three straight in the series prior to that Muskie win and has won 11 of the last 13 meetings between the two.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Dominican 5-0 Saturday
The Muskies were buried under a flurry of Stars goals in the first half as host Dominican scored all five of its goals in the first 28:19, with all five coming in a span of 12:46. Lakeland struggled to make many charges and was outshot 21-3 for the match, with
Lizandro Jimenez (two shots) and
Gavin Pinchart (one shot on goal) the lone players to get shots at the goal.
Zach Heiman made eight saves for the Muskies, who dropped their second straight in the NACC.
About the Muskies: After faring respectably in non-conference play including a tie with Beloit and a 3-2 win over Finlandia, the Muskies struggled in a pair of conference losses last week, also falling to St. Norbert 6-0 on Wednesday. Lakeland was without Gethand in both matches and also Saturday did not have
Suleiman Haji, who recorded two assists in the Muskies' 3-2 win over Finlandia on Sept. 13.
MSOE last time out: Lost at Carthage 1-0 (OT) Saturday
The Raiders lost a tough one on the road out of conference as Carthage scored the winning goal 1:23 into overtime for the match's only goal. Both teams had few opportunities, combining for just six shots on goal, four by MSOE, which saw a two-game winning streak snapped.
About the Raiders: MSOE earlier last week had opened NACC play with a 2-0 win over Edgewood, scoring both goals in the second half. Zach Thompson got the Raiders on the board in the 57th minute and Jack Van Dyke added an insurance goal 11 minutes. Ron Marchionna made two saves in goal to get the win in a match MSOE held a 25-5 advantage in shots. The Raiders are annually one of the better programs in the NACC and last season finished 7-2-1 overall, 6-2 in the NACC North Division and won the divisional tourney in the alignment used in the abbreviated spring season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
