WAUWATOSA, Wis. –
Baylee Babcock (
Jr.-Mauston, Wis.) and
Morgan Erbstoesser (
Sr.-Union, Ill.) posted a doubles win but the Lakeland University women's tennis team again lost a number of close matches in falling to Wisconsin Lutheran College 8-1 Thursday afternoon at Hart Park.
The Muskies fell again to another of the better teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and dropped to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the NACC. Lakeland concludes its fall season with two matches this weekend, including a match at Marian University that could decide the final spot in the six-team NACC Tournament in the spring.
Babcock and Erbstoesser won at No. 3 doubles, defeating Ali Schmidt and Mary Meghrian 8-4. The win was the fourth this season for the duo, who improved to 4-4 in doubles play together.
The Muskies lost a pair of close matches again at the top of singles play.
Mary Blossom (
Fr.-Farmington, Mich.) won her first set at No. 2 singles before WLC's Jena Smith rallied to win 2-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Olivia Heling (
Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) also lost a first set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles and eventually fell to Katelyn Haskell in two close sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
Sadie Conway (
Jr.-Monroe, Wis.) also was defeated 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 singles by Sky Pope. Heling and
Kassidee Webb (
Fr.-Castroville, Texas) also were defeated by Pope and Izzy Hawley 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.
