Muskies pick up big road win at Marian to stay in chase for NACC tourney spot

FOND DU LAC – Needing a win to stay alive for a chance at a spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament, the Lakeland University women's tennis team came through with a 7-2 dual victory over Marian University Saturday at Fond du Lac High School.

The Muskies swept all three doubles matches and won four of six at singles to pull into a tie with the Sabres in the conference standings in the fight for the sixth and final spot in the NACC Tournament. Lakeland now is in position where it can clinch a spot in the conference tournament if it can win tomorrow against Concordia University Chicago in its fall regular season finale at Sports Core in Kohler.

Sadie Conway (Jr.-Monroe, Wis.), Mary Blossom (Fr.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Kassidee Webb (Fr.-Castroville, Texas) all were double winners for Lakeland. Conway and Blossom teamed up for an 8-4 win over Aeryn Olson and Carly Paulson at No. 1 singles, and Blossom earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Olson at No. 2 singles. Conway also was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Julia Loomans.

Webb paired with Olivia Heling (Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) for an 8-5 victory over Abby Okon and Katrina Pokorny at No. 2 doubles. She also added a 6-3, 6-2 win over Okon at No. 3 singles.

Clare Kelnhofer (So.-Brandon, Wis.) also claimed a hard-earned win at No. 6 singles, rallying to defeat Melana Brunton 4-6, 6-4, 10-4. Also winning was the No. 3 doubles team of Baylee Babcock (Jr.-Mauston, Wis.) and Morgan Erbstoesser (Sr.-Union, Ill.), victors by an 8-5 score of Brunton and Loomans.
