Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Nearly flawless Green Knights spoil Muskies’ NACC opener

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – St. Norbert College shot 53.5% from the field while the Lakeland University men's basketball team had its poorest shooting night of the season so far in a 95-56 loss Tuesday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies shot a season-low 30.8%, making 17 of 53 shots. The shooting struggles that carried over from the second half of Lakeland's previous game made it impossible to keep up with the Green Knights, who dropped Lakeland to 3-2 overall this season and 0-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

St. Norbert (3-2 overall, 2-0 NACC) made 38 of 71 field goals in the game, including 10 of 16 from three-point range (62.5%). The Green Knights shot better than 50% in both halves, and also dominated play inside with a 49-25 rebounding advantage and a 54-16 lead in points in the paint.

St. Norbert grabbed hold of the game over the final ten minutes of the first half, turning a close game for the first 10 minutes into a 20-point halftime bulge. Travis Kohlmann (So.-Kiel, Wis.) hit two foul shots to draw Lakeland within 22-21 with 8:39 left in the half, but the Green Knights went on a 21-2 run over the next seven-plus minutes, and Michael Payant's jumper just before the buzzer gave SNC a 45-25 halftime lead. The Muskies never got closer than 18 points early in the second half.

Lakeland held a six-point lead in the early going when Kohlmann hit a three-pointer for an 11-5 lead just over five minutes in, and the first 10 minutes included six lead changes and two ties. The Muskies' last led at 19-17 just past the midway point of the half and just before the Green Knights went on a big run.

Kohlmann scored 14 points off the bench to lead Lakeland, making 4 of 8 from three-point range. Caleb Fuller (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis.) also came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points, making 4 of 7 shots. Isaiah Hammond (So.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored four points and added team highs with nine rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots.

Payant and Jamison Nickolai led St. Norbert with 15 points each, and the balanced Green Knights featured six players scoring at least eight points. Evan Glaser added nine points and seven rebounds. Former Muskies head coach (2003-06) and current St. Norbert head coach Gary Grzesk was victorious in his first time bringing a team to Lakeland in his 16 years at SNC.

Lakeland is back in action again Thursday when it hosts high-scoring Greenville (Ill.) University at 7 p.m. at the Woltzen Gym.
